Strong Women Strong Connections

Communities thrive when women business owners succeed, and we know that business ownership can seem like a vast, overwhelming road at times. During Strong Women, Strong Connections, attendees can engage with a panel of local business owners about their experiences in ownership, explore challenges and solutions, and make connections with peers and other business resources who can help them move forward on their business journey.

Not a business owner? That's okay! Whether you own a business or support women business owners, you're welcome here. Chamber leaders, economic developers, community supporters, business lenders, accountants, etc., are all encouraged to attend.

Bring your business cards, invite a friend, and get ready for this event designed to inspire and connect you with other strong women!

Meet the Panelists | Wahpeton

DAWN LONG | BOLD PRINT

Dawn Long was born and raised in Fargo, ND.  She attended NDSCS in Wahpeton, obtaining an Associates Degree in Graphic Arts.  She has worked in print shops in Fargo, San Francisco and the Seattle area since 1986.  Her experience includes press operator, bindery manager, customer service, management, and everything in between.  Dawn purchased Bold Print in Wahpeton in 2016, and The Frame Shop in 2018.  She has been married for over 35 years and has 3 grown children.

JAMIE NEPPL | TINY TYKES

Jamie has always loved kids and has dedicated her life to nurturing and developing skills in children. After graduating from Breckenridge High School in 2000, she went to NDSCS and earned her General Associates Degree with an emphasis in Pre-Education, graduating in 2002. From there, Jamie transferred to Minnesota State University Moorhead and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education, graduating in 2005.

After completing her education, Jamie helped launch ECI, an after-school program in the Wahpeton School District, where she served as the director. The program grew successfully, and in 2005, she transitioned to a new role as the owner of Lil Tykes located in South Wahpeton.

Initially, the capacity of Lil Tykes could hold up to 18 children. Within a year and a half, the classes were full and there was an extensive waiting list. Parents needed a place for their children to receive nurturing and crucial developmental skills, so they needed to expand our business.

In 2008, Lil Tykes expanded and rebranded as Tiny Tykes, with a new building in Wahpeton for a daycare licensed for up to 49 children.

The previous owner of the ECI after-school program reached out about the possibility of them taking over the program once again. Jamie accepted the challenge and formed the Wahpeton Youth Club, which operates out of the Wahpeton School District.

In 2018, Tiny Tykes expanded its operations and opened a second location in Battle Lake to provide nurturing and developmental services to infants and toddlers in the area.

Jamie now lives in Breckenridge with her husband, Justin of 18 years, and their three children; Karsyn (16), Easton (15), and Addisyn (11). In her free time, she loves to cheer on her children in their activities.

Whitney Petersen | Tiny Tykes

Whitney received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing from the University of North Dakota in 2013 and her Master of Science degree in Nursing in 2019. She began her career in Breckenridge, MN working in various settings, including Emergency Department, Acute Care, and Same Day Surgery. Following her time at the bedside, Whitney began her seven-year career as a Nurse Educator at the North Dakota State College of Science in Wahpeton, ND.

Following her long-time interest, she began training with experts in Medical Aesthetics for neuromodulators, dermal filler, and laser technology. In 2022, Whitney began her business planning journey and brought WHIT Aesthetics into fruition that same year. In just a little over a year she has built a team comprising of a Medical Director, two additional Registered Nurses and one Licensed Practical Nurse.

In her free time, Whitney enjoys traveling, golfing, attending concerts, and spending time with her family and friends.
